First Trailer For 'The Mummy' Reboot Released Online

(CBS SF) – On Sunday evening, Universal Pictures released the first trailer of the latest reboot for "The Mummy." This time around, the film stars Tom Cruise taking on an ancient Egyptian princess who was awaken in her tomb, which will make anyone pretty upset.

The film co-stars Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe, Annabelle Wallis (The Tudors), Courtney B. Vance (The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story), Jake Johnson (New Girl) and Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond) as Princess Ahmanet aka The Mummy.

This time around, Alex Kurtzman is at the helm as director. Best known for creating the sci-fi television series Fringe and Sleepy Hollow, Kurtzman is also set to produce Universal's Monsters Projects Van Helsing, The Invisible Man, and starting off with The Mummy.

Back in May, Crowe, who plays Dr. Henry Jekyll, Fellow of the Royal Society (yes, that Dr. Jekyll) tells Entertainment Weekly, the film is "designed to seriously scare the s– out of you." Although not confirmed, Jekyll's presence in the film opens the possibility of a stand-alone "Jekyll & Hyde" monster film.

About "The Mummy":

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

"The Mummy" will rise into theaters June 9, 2017.
