One In Custody, One At Large After Oakland Break-In

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- One suspect was taken into custody and another remains at large after a break-in at a building in Oakland's Uptown area Tuesday morning led to police surrounding the building for several hours.

Officers responded around 6 a.m. to a report of a burglary at the high-rise in the 2100 block of Webster Street. The building was closed to the public and under renovation, according to police.

Police learned from witnesses that two suspects had broken into the building. Officers surrounded the area and partially blocked some streets in the area, including Webster between 21st and 22nd streets.

After amplifying orders for the suspects to come out of the building, officers went inside and found one of the suspects after searching through multiple floors.

The male suspect suffered moderate injuries -- police did not clarify whether the injuries occurred during the burglary and standoff or while he was taken into custody -- and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

His name was not immediately released.

The second suspect in the burglary remains at large Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the Police Department's burglary section at (510) 238-3951.
