1 Hurt, Classic Autos Destroyed In 2-Alarm South City House Fire

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Investigators were searching for the cause of a two-alarm house fire in South San Francisco that destroyed two classic cars Saturday morning.

It was first reported around 4:30 a.m. at a home at 61 Baypark Circle, just 100 yards from a city fire station.

Huge flames could be seen from miles away.

Four people were inside the house when the fire broke out.

One person suffered minor injuries and the flames gutted two mint-condition vintage cars parked in the garage. The cars had an estimated value of $180,000.

Firefighters said the burning cars in the garage made fighting the blaze difficult. It raced through the attic and 25 minutes into the firefight, things became too dangerous and the crews had to move out of the home.

"We started seeing some signs of ceiling compromise and at that point we decided to make the call to pull them out," said Acting Battalion Chief Brian Metcho.

Metcho said the investigation into the fire's cause is still in its early stages.
