Best Pet-Friendly Camping Spots In The Bay Area

Camping is one of those activities that people and pets look forward to every year. Don't be disappointed in booking a campground that does not allow pets. The great outdoors were meant to be explored with the ones you love, whether they have two legs or four. These camping spots are enjoyable for friends and family, including your pets.

Big Basin Tent Cabins are located in the Santa Cruz mountains in Big Basin Redwoods State Park. There are over 80 miles of trails in the park as well as waterfalls and a marsh. Wildlife is abundant and it is asked that dogs are not left unattended. When outside, pets must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet. No additional pet fees are charged.

Sonoma Coast State Park is scenic with sandy beaches and rugged headlands. Mild weather can be enjoyed here when trying to escape the inland heat. Leashed dogs are allowed at the campgrounds at Wright's Beach and Bodega Dunes and Blind Beach for day use only. They are not allowed at Bodega Dunes and Salmon Creek Beaches, though, due to the Western Snowy Plover habitat.

Bothe Napa Valley State Park is in the middle of wine country. The park offers picnic areas, swimming, hiking trails and camping. Dogs are allowed when on a leash in camping and picnic areas only. Dogs are not allowed to be left attended in camping areas or your vehicle. Summer temperatures are high, so make sure your dog is not left unattended in a hot car and they remain hydrated.

Del Valle Regional Park is 5,000 acres that include a five-mile lake. There are approximately 67 miles of trails throughout the park and 150 camping sites. Boat rentals are also available. Dogs are required to be on leash in any developed areas and within sight and under voice control in any undeveloped areas. It is also pet friendly when it comes to water dogs who want to take a swim, go for a sail or fish.

Samuel P. Taylor State Park is a popular park that borders Golden Gate National Recreation Area and Point Reyes National Seashore. Leashed dogs are welcome at the campgrounds as well as day use picnic areas. Pets must be confined to a tent or vehicle at night and be on a six feet maximum leash. In the park dogs on leashes are also welcomed on the Cross Marin Trail, which is about five miles long. This park also serves as a good base to explore many trails that are opened to leashed dogs in the Golden Gate Recreation Area and Point Reyes National Seashore.
