(KCBS) – KCBS Food and Wine Editor Narsai David reviews a Chardonnay from the Russian River Valley and a Curee Le Bec from Santa Ynez Valley.
2009 Jordan Chardonnay, Russian River Valley
Bright, very appealing aromas of wild flowers and citrus. And even brighter flavors of apples with plenty of a crisp, delicious acidity. Now here’s a real Chardonnay, one that shows off the fruit flavors of the grape and most importantly is balanced on the palate. An elegant, medium bodied wine that would be fantastic with rich seafood and poultry dishes. Fine price $29.00.
2009 Beckmen Vineyards Curee Le Bec
A classic collection of grapes from the Rhone Valley in France as grown in the Santa Ynez Valley in California. Deep red color, lush ripe aromas of purple plums lead to a fine balance on the palate. Mainly Grenache and Syrah, here’s a delicious wine, ready to drink with a barbecue or other rich food, but a year or two of aging would really pay off. Only 1-2 tons of grapes harvested per acre. Fine price $18.00.
