SAN JOSE (KCBS) – The National Hockey League has announced that the San Jose Sharks have been selected to host a regular season outdoor game during the 2014-2015 season and it will be played at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.

On February 21, 2015, the Sharks will play host to the defending Stanley Cup champions the Los Angeles Kings. This marks the first time an outdoor game has been held in Northern California since the first such game was contested during the 2003-04 season.

"We are honored and elated that the NHL has selected the San Jose Sharks to participate in the NHL's 2015 Coors Light Stadium Series and is bringing this magnificent event to the Bay Area," said San Jose Sharks Chief Operating Officer John Tortora. "This event celebrates the growth of the great game of hockey in San Jose and recognizes the incredible support and passion of Sharks fans all over Northern California. We know our fans will bring the electrifying atmosphere of SAP Center at San Jose to Levi's Stadium on Feb. 21 and we are looking forward to showcasing Sharks Territory outside and under the lights."

Tickets go on sale beginning on August 7 and first dibs go to San Jose Sharks Season Ticket Holders, Levi's Stadium SBL Members and Los Angeles Kings Season Ticket Holders. On Friday, August 8, San Jose Sharks 10-game SharkPak Holders will have access to the pre-sale window. Tickets will go on sale to the general public later this fall.

San Jose has long been rumored as a possible location for an outdoor hockey game. 13 games have been held since the first game was during the 2003-04 season. The only other outdoor game currently slated for the 2014-15 season will feature the Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Capitals on January 1, 2015.
