Overturned Truck Triggers Massive 880 Backup

OAKLAND (CBS SF) – A dump truck filled with dirt overturned on Interstate 880 in downtown Oakland early Tuesday, triggering a massive backup in the southbound lanes.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the overturned truck was first reported on the connection from westbound Interstate 980 to southbound Highway 880 at 8:08 a.m.

The overturned truck spilled mounds of dirt unto the freeway, blocking three lanes of southbound traffic.

Drivers were exiting on Jackson Street to also get around the accident scene.

There were no immediate word on injuries or when the lanes would be cleared.

The crash caused a massive back in the southbound lanes. The CHP was advising drivers to find alternative routes.
