Ever since it was first established in Santa Cruz in 1995, the strength and conditioning system known as CrossFit has grown rapidly in popularity in the Bay Area and across the country. Today there are approximately 4,400 CrossFit gyms, with a good number in East Bay. Anyone thinking of joining a local CrossFit should be in reasonably good health and it’s never a bad idea to consult with a personal physician before taking on any new form of exercise. CrossFit is open to both members and non-members but paid introductory training sessions are required before participating in classes. All CrossFit trainers have to undergo a certification process, with many possessing advanced degrees. All locations hold several classes Monday through Friday and a few classes on weekends.
