Last Of Ashes Stolen From Alameda Church Recovered

ALAMEDA (CBS/AP) -- Police have located what appears to be the last of the ashes of an Alameda man whose remains were inside urns stolen from a church just before his funeral.

Alameda police Lt. Sean Lynch said a groundskeeper discovered a box containing ashes on Friday outside the Alameda church that 74-year-old Marvin Kent Hockabout's remains were stolen from.

Investigators believe the ashes are those of Hockabout although they are still awaiting confirmation.

A backpack with two urns containing Hockabout's ashes was stolen from Christ Episcopal Church on March 5 just before his funeral service.

Police do not know if the thief was aware of what was in the backpack.

Some of the stolen ashes were recovered a few days after the theft.
