Man Sentenced To Time Served, Probation For Trying To Throw Wife Off San Mateo Bridge
SAN MATEO (CBS SF) -- A man who pleaded no contest in April to a domestic violence charge stemming from allegedly trying to throw his wife off the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge in December was sentenced to five years of probation, prosecutors said Friday.
Xavier Jarrell McClinton, 48, received credit for 169 days he's already served in jail, according to District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
He will be required to go through 104 hours of domestic violence training, remain in therapy and continue to take all medications he's prescribed, Wagstaffe said.
McClinton pleaded no contest in San Mateo County Superior Court in April to felony domestic violence with an enhancement for infliction of great bodily injury and a serious felony allegation.
Prosecutors said McClinton was driving east on state Highway 92 with his wife on Dec. 13, 2013 when the couple began to argue inside their white Honda Pilot.
Witnesses said the vehicle crashed into a guardrail, and McClinton got out of the car, dragged his wife out of the car and tried to throw her over the side of the bridge.
Other motorists stopped to help McClinton's wife, and McClinton ended up falling off the bridge and 15 feet into the bay.
